Matthew 3:1-12

Here is where John the Baptist states, there is one coming after me who is mightier than I, and I am not worth to untie his sandals. John had just called the Pharisees a brood of vipers.   Here we also see something that has me puzzled.  A huge block of time that there is no accounting of.  Christ’s youth is the time that is missing.  Was he competitive with the other boys he grew up with?  We knew he liked a party; all we have to do is look at the wedding in Cana to see that. In other words, we can have fun, we are created in God’s image, there is something within us that enjoys a good time. We can have a Holy Good time.  The question I am going to want to ask him when I see him is what was your child hood like? But back to the time when John was telling that there would be one who is much greater than he.

This raises a question for each one of us today.  We have just finished Christmas.  There were parties, family gatherings, and presents. But what did we do to make the way clear for the savior?  Are we willing to step out and make the point that the reason for the season really is to celebrate the birth of the Savior? The Christ Child if you will. Then follow-up with a quick little phrase, “He came that we can have life with our Father here on this earth and after we transcend to heaven all we have to do is give ourselves to him.  Look for open doors to touch those around you.  When the door is open go through it, you will be amazed by the results.

Go in peace
