Hebrews 11:1 What is faith really? Faith is the evidence of things hope for the substance of things not seen. We have heard this scripture over and over, but what does it really mean? Imagine a Husband and wife in bed. They have been together for years and years. He is Eli she is Jill. They have been in love with each other since high school. They are now in their 70s. Jill lies in bed beside Eli and listens to his breathing as she has done thousands of times. She knows without a doubt that he is more in love with her than when they first met way back when. No logic, no reason, she just knows it. Sure he tells her, but it’s more than that. It’s knowing without a shadow of a doubt that his whole being is sold out to her. Soon one of them will experience a physical death. But even then the loss as hard and tragic as it will be will be a simple passing from life unto life. They know as sure as the love for each other that the love of our Father is stronger yet, and they will not be apart for long. Their love is nothing that they did, it was who they were. Our faith is not something we do. We don’t say if I only have enough faith. Faith is part of who we are. It is realizing that yes, no matter what happens, Father has a plan, and it will work for good to them whose love is for God, and are called according to his purpose. We are not promised that all things will be what we consider good. But know this, Father will work his purpose out of everything, and that is good. Faith is an inner trust that is really impossible to describe. At times it defies logic. Yet when Father places that assurance in our heart then we are able to trust. If we have to force ourselves g then it is not Father who is going to accomplish what he is going to accomplish. It’s us trying to believe hard enough. Faith just is. We don’t have to manufacture it, it just is. Go in peace Michael |
