1st Thessalonians 5:23-28
May the God of peace himself sanctify us.
Paul is offering a benediction here. He is ending his letter to the Thessalonians. He is urging purity in mind, body and spirit. When a person receives Christ as their personal Lord and Savior his blood he shed on the cross purifies our whole being. Keep in mind Father works in threes. He is the great I am in three persons. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Paul here also points out that man is made up of three parts. Those three parts are Spirit, Soul, and Body. All three are purified by the blood that Christ shed on the cross. How disgraceful is it for us to allow ourselves to become polluted, if you will, by our actions that we know are wrong. We know and understand what is right and what is wrong. The price that was payed for us to be purified was huge. It’s like the guy being prayed for, cured of lung cancer, and instantly lights up another cigarette. Doing so has no logic in it at all. What I have trouble understanding is this. We mess up enough by doing things that we honestly think are the right things to do, and find out there wrong. Why then when we know something goes against what Father by the Son through the spirit has taught us is wrong do we still do it? It’s called our sin nature. Proverbs 26:11 talks about a dog returning to its own vomit. That my friend is what repeating of the same sin over and over again amounts to. The Father sacrificed his Son that his blood might purify us. Yet we will take the action of returning to that same thing we have been purified of. It’s time to break that cycle that the enemy uses as a trap to draw us away from Father. It’s time to truly repent, turn away from those things the enemy would use to destroy us. It’s time to walk in the purity that Father created in us by his sacrifice of his Son the Christ. It’s time to walk in the Spirits leading that is given to us each day for our protection. Before you act listen to the Spirit speaking in your life. Listen and live.
Go in peace
Michael
