1Thessalonians 5:17-18
                                                                As you pray without ceasing give thanks.
We are told to give thanks in every situation. Today we give thanks for the Goodness the Lord has given to us.  We give thanks for what he has done for us.  But why is this day set aside really.  Historically we see the Pilgrims giving thanks for their safety and preservation in the new land.  But today why do we set aside that one day to give thanks?  One day out of the year that we kinda, sorta give thanks.    Thanksgiving is the day I have found that allows people a day just to contemplate the blessing we do have in this country.  A day of taking time to realize just how blessed we are.  We all have our problems in life. But we do have one thing going for us.  We have God almighty as our Father to carry us through any situation.  We are told to give thanks in every situation, and to be in a constant state of prayer every day.  If we truly follow this command St Paul gave us then we will understand what it really means to be thankful. So as you go to your family celebrations today. Remind everyone why they are there.  Remind everyone that giving thanks has to be something we do all year long.  As we do this then we will see the growth in our Father through the Son by the Spirit in way we could only dream of.
